If you’re searching for a race that captures the heart of Florida’s trail-running community, the Florida Roots Trail Race at Fort Clinch State Park is it. Canopied singletrack, coastal climbs, and miles of Florida roots (literally) make this event both challenging and welcoming — whether you’re a first-time trail runner or an experienced ultramarathoner chasing a new PR.
All distances follow a 10K (6.2-mile) loop that starts and ends near the Fort Clinch Visitor Center. Runners tackle one loop for the 10K, three for the 30K, and five for the 50K, while the 5K covers a shorter section of the same terrain.
Expect rolling sand and dirt trails, short climbs, and plenty of roots to keep you honest — a perfect mix of runnable and technical.
Aid stations are well stocked with hydration, real food, and friendly volunteers, and you’ll have access to drop-bags at the start/finish area between loops.
The Fort Clinch trails are runnable but relentless — constant micro-climbs, sandy footing, and uneven terrain test your strength and focus more than your top speed. That’s why structured trail-specific training matters.
